St Jude's in Spring

The Wider Church

Local links
St Jude's aims to keep good relations with other local Christian communities.  We are in a covenant with the Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption as Churches on the Green, and some activities are shared also with Bishopsgate Evangelical Church.  St Andrew's Greek Orthodox Church is only a few yards away, and The Journey uses the Englefield Green Hub (previously the Royal British Legion building in Larchwood Drive for its services.  Royal Holloway, University of London, is within the parish, and has an ecumenical chaplaincy, and an Asian Church uses our Church Hall.

The churches in the area mostly belong to Christians Together in Egham, which organizes events such as the Walk of Witness through Egham town centre each Good Friday.

Links within our churches
St Jude's belongs to the Church of England and to the Methodist Church, and both have two levels between the parish and the national organization.

As an Anglican church, we (with nine other parishes) are part of Runnymede Deanery, which covers the same area as the local authority.  In turn Runnymede Deanery is within the Diocese of Guildford, and the Bishop of Guildford as well as his general oversight (his episkope) of the whole diocese is our Patron, legally responsible for appointing our vicar.  The Vicar and three elected lay people are members of Runnymede Deanery Synod, and are electors to the Diocesan Synod and the General Synod of the Church of England.

As a Methodist church, we (with nine other churches) are part of the Staines and Feltham Circuit, and responsibility for ministry is widely shared through the circuit.  Beyond that we belong to the South East District, and then to the national church: this vertical linking is the 'connexion'.  As with the Anglicans, elected members give a say at circuit level, and via them to the district and to the Methodist Conference.

Formally St Jude's is a Local Ecumenical Partnership, and for practical purposes members of our congregation are members of both denominations.
